Portraits at Dublin Life Drawing

Looking at lots of interesting vivid colours with this new work from Dublin Life Drawing in the last couple of weeks - sugar paper and colour pencils - recently reading about thew Scottish Colourists so I’m for sure seeing an influence here - plus the simple joy of colour I want to bring onto Mná 8 project.

Illustrated Diary of Colombia

Play with ideas for an illustrated diary - collaging words, ink mark, mini drawings I made - snapshots/frames of my everyday life in Colombia - looking at another way to show a story/idea about travel in a more interesting way like a zig zag rather than straight linear version - looking also at printing a series of images as zines - printed textiles - literally wear my drawings, it would be wonderful to collaborate with fashion designers on something like this :)

Illustrations for Fundacion Promedio

A wonderful experience to make drawings in situ in Colombia @artesumapaz for @fundacionpromedio green design thinking making this bamboo home - the process, gathering & making with the designers, architects & volunteers is a wonderful example of creative design with nature - beauty & function - more examples on @evakellyillustrations

Fundacion Promedio is an organization from which we experiment, create and develop spaces, objects and actions to restore the Earth while restoring ourselves.

Artists Residency ArteSumapaz, Colombia

Beginning my residency in the Colombian mountains with Fundación ArteSumapaz, an arts and culture center located in San Bernardo, Cundinamarca, Colombia.  A unique setting embedded in natural beauty that includes projects focusing on organic agriculture, reforestation, and intentional community. Something I seek out in my freelance practice is to be surrounded by supportive, creative and varied community of like minded people. Given the right context, environment my intention is to make interesting work happen, work that i am excited about again - the mantra here is Trust the Process - and what a better way to start than from here - More details about these initiatives and get a real taste of this magical place - https://artesumapaz.org @arteSumapaz

Travels through South Morocco

What a wonderful platform to showcase so many different ideas and responses to Illustration! The AOI are a wonderful organisation to be part of for an array of reasons for sure - These are my two entries for the WIA23 of my recent travels to Morocco - I wanted to show the heat, atmosphere, colours and beauty of the Moroccan people and their natural warmth. So many stories…

Sketchbook Location Drawings

Getting back to my love of location /reportage illustration of Dublin views - this one scenic views of Dublin mountains- nothing quite like the fresh air and energy of drawing in situ with the wind and the rain adding to the image!

Stamp Design Inspiration

I came across these beautiful USA stamp designs of Flannery O’Connor when doing research for a workshop on Irish Stamp Designs - celebration 100 years on the 6th Dec 2022!

WiP: What drew you to commission June Glasson to paint the covers of the rereleases, from which you drew for this project?

The inspiration to hire June came from Milton Glaser’s 1967 cover for Wise Blood. His sooty illustration approach reminded me somewhat of Glasson’s layered ink techniques. Her series “The Foulest of Shapes” (2009) struck me with its brutal beauty. I hoped to capture some of this with our O’Connor reissues. I talk more about our collaboration here.
